The Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d’histoire et d’arch\u00e9ologie de Riquewihr ( SHAR) is organizing a lecture on April 24 at 7:30 pm at
\nl’H\u00f4tel de Ville de Riquewihr, on the remarkable features to be found inside Riquewihr’s houses at
\n. Presented by R\u00e9mi Baudru, honorary
\nurban architect, the subject is “Riquewihr, behind the facades a remarkable heritage
\n“. <\/p>\n
The lecturer was Director of Urban Planning for the City of Colmar in the 90s, before
\nworking for the City of Strasbourg. He was in charge of the \u0152uvre Notre-Dame, overseeing the major
\nrestoration projects on the cathedral, and then collaborating on the
\nUnesco World Heritage listing of the Neustadt district. But R\u00e9mi Baudru
\nis best known as a specialist in traditional Alsatian architecture. <\/p>\n
This lecture will provide an insight into the interiors of Riquewihr houses (painted
\nceilings, coffered ceilings, painted decorations, staircases containing sculptures unknown to
\nthe general public). Also on display will be the extremely rare “stove fronts” and
\nfine examples of the Renaissance columns carved in sandstone that can be seen in
\nhouses. These columns, which have retained traces of their original polychromy,
\ncorrespond to the “strong mullions” of the wide windows. These decorations reflect the wealth
\nand art of living of the people who built these houses. The conference will also be
\nan opportunity to see for the first time old drawings and photos dating from the late 19th
\ncentury, preserved in regional and Parisian documentary collections. <\/p>\n
