The Société d’histoire et d’archéologie de Riquewihr ( SHAR) is organizing a lecture on April 24 at 7:30 pm at
l’Hôtel de Ville de Riquewihr, on the remarkable features to be found inside Riquewihr’s houses at
. Presented by Rémi Baudru, honorary
urban architect, the subject is “Riquewihr, behind the facades a remarkable heritage
“.

The lecturer was Director of Urban Planning for the City of Colmar in the 90s, before
working for the City of Strasbourg. He was in charge of the Œuvre Notre-Dame, overseeing the major
restoration projects on the cathedral, and then collaborating on the
Unesco World Heritage listing of the Neustadt district. But Rémi Baudru
is best known as a specialist in traditional Alsatian architecture.

This lecture will provide an insight into the interiors of Riquewihr houses (painted
ceilings, coffered ceilings, painted decorations, staircases containing sculptures unknown to
the general public). Also on display will be the extremely rare “stove fronts” and
fine examples of the Renaissance columns carved in sandstone that can be seen in
houses. These columns, which have retained traces of their original polychromy,
correspond to the “strong mullions” of the wide windows. These decorations reflect the wealth
and art of living of the people who built these houses. The conference will also be
an opportunity to see for the first time old drawings and photos dating from the late 19th
century, preserved in regional and Parisian documentary collections.

Conference organized by SHAR on April 24 at 7:30 pm on the second floor of the Hôtel de Ville in Paris.
